The colours of Autumn »
May 5, 2011
It is such a beautiful time of year here in the Canberra District. Autumn brings cool crisp mornings, perfect days and glorious colour everywhere. In the evenings, the fireplace is lit and thousands of stars move across the clear night skies. I have put together a few of my favourite photos that show autumn in the garden and vineyard.

Land of Flooding Rains »

It hasn't stopped raining. It is making our building work very slow. This morning the Yass River broke it's banks and there is more rain on the way.

Murrumbateman Field Days »
October 15, 2010
According to the website, “Murrumbateman Field Days is an annual weekend event dedicated to sustainable and best practice small area farming.

It’s a great day out for the whole family – with all the latest farming equipment, machinery and supplies, as well as entertainment, demonstrations and good old-fashioned country fun.”

We love visiting the field days. There is always something we need to buy. This year, the major purchase was a chipper, so we could turn all the vineyard and garden waste into mulch. There was also the usual plants – some apricot and cherry trees, some more blackberries for the restaurant gardens. Its hard to keep the Vineyard Manager and the future winemakers away from all the shiny machines.

The future winemakers love the field days. They like looking at all the animals and this year were very excited to go shopping for some ducks. The chickens were popular too, but we didn't need any more.

They have to learn early to get a good eye for sheep. They will need it in the sale yards when they are older.

Although the alpacas were kind of interesting too.

The best thing is the rural fire brigade BBQ tent. Great Steak sandwiches and sausages on rolls. Its almost impossible to walk past the smell of onions and sausages on the BBQ.
